Animal shelters overcrowded

Have you managed to find a place for your pet? The holidays are approaching, and many people are taking their cats or dogs to boarding kennels. According to a survey by Omroep Gelderland, most kennels are currently out of space for new pets. Only regular customers can still secure a spot.

Jet Broer of Jetdogs in Zevenaar says her boarding kennel is completely full during the holidays. "We have no room for new animals during either Christmas or New Year's," says Broer. She explains this is because she runs a small kennel with only fifteen kennels. "Most of our clients are regulars and have already reserved a spot in July because they know space is limited," says Broer.

At Dierenpension Ouddijk in Didam and Dierenpension Van Gaalen in Beek, it's exactly the same: all the spots are taken, and there's not a single one left. Romy Strijbos of Dierenpension Van Gaalen says she had one last booking last weekend, but at some point they had to say, "This far and no further. With the people we currently have available, we're at our maximum." This confirms the impression that many animal shelters are full during the holidays. Holidays.

Pets afraid of fireworks

Around the holidays, most animal boarding facilities are extremely busy. This is because many people take their pets to a boarding facility during this period, as the animals are afraid of fireworks or because their owners are going on vacation. In recent weeks, many boarding houses have had to tell potential clients they no longer have room.

Jeanette Töpfer of Quimper Animal Boarding along the A12 in Duiven says she still has some space for a Christmas emergency, but she's already had to tell potential clients several times that she has no more space for New Year's Eve. This confirms the perception that many boarding facilities are full during the holidays.

In Driel, Kattenhotel Figaro is benefiting from the closure of several other boarding kennels in the area. There are still a few spots available, but they're already filling up quickly. This confirms the perception that many boarding kennels are very busy around the holidays.
