We are PetBase Animal Database
In the past, animals were tattooed for registration—a painful practice. But then came painless microchips in 1993, and while they reduced the pain, a new problem arose: records could only be accessed by phone during office hours. Imagine losing your pet and not being able to immediately locate it—unthinkable!
That's why we at PetBase were the first to create an online pet database in 1998. With our database, your pet is traceable 24/7, so it can be safely returned to you quickly.
PetBase: Family business with ISO certification
Today, PetBase is a ISO certified A family business where, despite its professionalization, customers and animals remain central! Several family members still work within the organization, but in recent years the team has expanded with enthusiastic colleagues who are not Leemkuil family members but who now feel part of the family. The team consists of a mix of animal lovers, animal professionals, and IT specialists. Over the years, PetBase registrations have been supplemented with registrations from former databases: RCA, SRGN, VETAIR, and Stichting CHIP. This means we can now say that together we have been registering animals for 33 years.
PetBase has a one-stop shop for supplying ISO FDX-B chips (transponders), chip readers, EU pet passports, vaccination booklets, tokens en registrations.
Denis
Head of Registrations
The most rewarding part of my job is reuniting lost pets with their owners. I've been doing this with great pleasure for over 25 years. I come from a technical background and have always been focused on automating and improving processes. At PetBase, I apply that passion every day, and I don't consider it work. My love for animals, technology, and automation come together perfectly here. Together with the entire PetBase team, we make the world of pets safer and happier.

How is PetBase rated?

What does the pet passport actually contain?
The PetBase EU Pet Passport is the official ID for dogs, cats, and ferrets in the Netherlands. It contains microchip numbers, owner information, vaccinations, and health information. The document is mandatory for travel within the EU and provides assurance that the animal is correctly registered according to I&R legislation. Thanks to its connection to the PetBase register and unique security features, the passport is reliable and fraud-resistant. The passport also offers important advantages for pets that don't travel: it serves as a lifelong health record and helps in the recovery of lost animals.

Keeping your rabbit indoors or outdoors? Autumn makes all the difference.
Autumn brings cold and damp, but with the right care, a rabbit can easily stay outdoors. A well-insulated hutch, dry bedding, and protection from drafts are essential. Older or sick rabbits are better off staying indoors, provided it's not too warm and there's enough room to move around. During this time, care requires extra attention to nutrition, fur, and health. With a warm place, exercise, and good company, every rabbit will safely make it through autumn.
